| Dear St. Mary’s, This weekend, when we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we are sharing with you a few documents for discernment on the future of our beloved Church, one of several merging with other churches in the archdiocese. Let’s read these documents in a spirit of prayer, listening to the Holy Spirit, and responding to the ultimate question for all of us, “Where is God in this process of archdiocesan wide restructuring? Where is God calling us to go?” In our baptism we are invited to enter into an experience of transformation, sometimes painful transformation, just like the experience of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. At some point in his ministry, Jesus asked God the Father, “if it’s possible, take this cup of suffering away from me.” In prayer, Jesus then says, “However—not what I want but what you want.” We are not alone in our journey; Jesus Christ is suffering with us. Let’s enter in deep communion with him in the Eucharist, to become one, with him, with the Father, the Holy Spirit, and our beloved community. Hard copies of all these documents have been sent to you by regular mail this weekend. If you have not registered in the parish or you do not receive your copies this week, there will be copies available in the church. -Peace with you. Olaf. |
| Estimados fieles de Santa María, Este fin de semana, cuando celebramos la Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor, compartimos con ustedes algunos documentos para reflexionar y decidir sobre el futuro de nuestra amada Iglesia, uno de los varias iglesias que se fusionan con otras de la arquidiócesis. Leamos estos documentos en un espíritu de oración, escuchando al Espíritu Santo y respondiendo a la pregunta fundamental para todos nosotros: “¿Dónde está Dios en este proceso de amplia reestructuración arquidiocesana? ¿A dónde nos llama Dios a ir? “ En nuestro bautismo se nos invita a entrar en una experiencia de transformación, a veces transformación dolorosa, como la experiencia de la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo. En algún momento de su ministerio, Jesús le pidió a Dios Padre, “si es posible, aparta de mi esta copa de sufrimiento”. En oración, Jesús luego dice: “Sin embargo, no lse haga lo que yo quiero, sino lo que tú quieres”. No estamos solos en nuestro caminar; Jesucristo sufre con nosotros. Entremos en profunda comunión con Él en la Eucaristía, para ser uno con Él, con el Padre, el Espíritu Santo y nuestra amada comunidad. Se le han enviado copias impresas de todos estos documentos por correo ordinario este fin de semana.
